Teams CQD: Wi-Fi vs wired network performance
Use CQD to compare network populations intelligently and decide whether Wi-Fi, wired, VPN, location, or another factor deserves attention.
Why Wi-Fi vs. wired is a useful CQD question
“The network is bad” is too broad. Comparing connection types can help determine whether poor quality clusters around Wi-Fi, wired networks, VPN, or specific managed network segments. The objective is not to declare one technology universally better; it is to identify where your environment shows a repeatable difference.
1. Make sure the network data is meaningful
CQD can use tenant building and subnet mapping to distinguish managed internal networks from external networks and associate endpoints with defined network information. Without good mapping, location and network comparisons can be less useful.

A busy Wi-Fi segment may naturally have more calls than a small wired population. Compare poor-call percentage, network metrics, and trends so volume does not become the conclusion.
- Does Wi-Fi have a materially higher poor-stream rate?
- Is the difference limited to one building or network?
- Does packet loss, jitter, or latency explain the pattern?
- Are device groups different between wired and Wi-Fi users?
3. Look for interaction effects
Connection type may not be the root cause. A Wi-Fi problem may appear only in one office, on one access-point area, with one device type, or during a specific time window. Use multiple CQD dimensions together before making a hardware or network investment.
4. Measure again after the change
If the organization changes wireless capacity, routing, VPN behavior, or device standards, preserve the same comparison so leadership can see whether the quality trend actually improved.
